The Airlift/Tanker Association is busily preparing for its 48th annual A/TA Convention and Air Mobility Technology Exhibition, along with the co-sponsored Air Mobility Command and A/TA Symposium. The 2016 event runs from 27-30 October at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center and Resort in Nashville, Tennessee.
Although the schedule is still being developed, there are 38 seminars and a number of major addresses planned during the event. Thus far, the 2016 A/TA and AMC Symposium list of keynote speakers and distinguished attendees includes the following:
- The Honorable Deborah Lee James, Secretary of the Air Force
- CMSAF James A Cody, Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force
- General Darren McDew, Commander, United States Transportation Command
Some of this year’s seminars in development include presentations from the Royal Canadian Air Force and Medal of Honor Recipient Colonel Joe Jackson, plus a seminar on “Doing Business with AMC,” to name a few.
Another expected highlight will be the honoring of Sir Alan Cobham as the 28th inductee into the Airlift/Tanker Hall of Fame. An aviation pioneer and significant contributor to air mobility through his historic aerial refueling experiments, Sir Alan is the former Chief Executive Officer and founder of Flight Refueling Ltd., now known as Cobham PLC, one of the United Kingdom’s largest aerospace companies. Sir Alan will be formally honored during the Convention during the Hall of Fame banquet.
A complete redesign of the A/TA on-line registration process is nearing completion. One of the biggest changes this year is that during the conference registration process, attendees will also reserve their hotel rooms. We are planning to open registration later this summer.
The theme for the 2016 convention is “America’s Mobility Force – Forged Through Alliances, Partnerships and Teamwork.” It encompasses the following three priorities for the Association, all of which are supported by convention activities:
- Supporting Mobility Airmen
- Preserving Our Culture
- Strengthening Our Bonds
