Thanks to Red River Chapter President Capt Mark Watson, 97th Air Mobility Wing Commander Col Todd Hohn, Altus Chamber of Commerce President Mr. Brian Bush, plus Dr. Joe Leverett and the Altus Military Affairs Committee for their great support for our Spring Board meeting this past Saturday, 3 June 2017.
We started our visit with a charity golf tournament on Friday morning, 2 June. The golf tournament was the second annual tournament supporting “Safe Homes for All Children.” The golf tournament raised an estimated $1500 for this very worthwhile local charity.
Following the golf tournament our President, CMSgt (ret) Mike Kerver presented an A/TA update brief to the Wing and Civic leadership team. Mr. Brian Bush then presented a community update and we also received thorough updates on the status, and a tour, of the KC-46 school house. This was followed by a chance to meet many of the people stationed or in training at Altus, along with their family members during a fantastic “Shrimp Boil.”
On Saturday we held our board meeting at the Altus Chamber of Commerce. It was a great meeting location and very generous of the Chamber of Commerce to share their work area with us. The meeting was very productive. We received an AMC update from Col Johnny Lamontagne and a Red River Chapter report before proceeding on to our Old and New Business. This included a First Quarter Treasurer’s report from Col (ret) John Murphy, an update on the status of Industry Partner participation at the upcoming convention from Col (ret) Cary Walgamott and a convention planning update from Col (ret) Miles Wiley. We also established the initial group of people for the 50th Anniversary planning committee so they can start preparing now for the 2018 convention.
Following our board meeting, Dr. Joe Leverett, his wife Kim and the Altus Military Affairs Committee hosted us for a BBQ at the Leverett home.
In summary we had a great board meeting and it was a wonderful opportunity to “strengthen air mobility bonds!”
It is a team effort to put together the details of a board meeting but a few people stood out in addition to Capt Watson. These included Capt Paul Dragnich, MSgt Chris Baker, TSgt Tobey Zicopula, Mrs. Jennifer King, Mr. Robert Cox and Ms. Carly McDavid. Also, Lt Col Carlos Berdecia, Mr. Don Stone, Mr Jeff Lee and TSgt Joyce Wells helped ensure the success of our visit. Without these professionals our meeting would not have happened.
Additionally, we are grateful for the superb presentations from Mr. Brian Bush, Mr. Ron Ladnier, Lt Cols Colin Henderson, John Wahrmund and Dan Rutternber and the KC-46 schoolhouse tours.
Well done and thanks Red River Chapter!
